Kirsten Adam, Ph.D. (she/her)
Kirsten obtained her PhD. at the University of Chicago with Edward Vogel and Edward Awh, and then spent her post doc years at UCSD working with John Serences. Before graduate school, Kirsten grew up in Iowa and earned her Bachelor’s at the University of Notre Dame. Outside of lab, she enjoys reading speculative fiction, escaping to nature with her dogs, and exploring Houston’s delicious food scene.

Ph.D. Students

Olga Kozlova

Olga is a third year doctoral student interested in metacognition and failures of working memory, e.g., feature-binding failures and VWM lapses. She completed her undergraduate Honors Thesis under Dr. Keisuke Fukuda at the University of Toronto Mississauga. Outside of the lab, she’s exploring the Houston/ Texas music scene and bookstores.

 

 

Jin Shi

Jin is a first-year incoming doctoral student interested in the cognitive and neural mechanisms of working memory and long-term memory. Under the mentorship of Dr. Cindy Lustig at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, he completed both his Honors Thesis and Master’s degree. Outside of research, he enjoys exploring captivating video games and traveling the world in search of new experiences and perspectives.

Undergraduate Students

Raya Cruse

Raya is an undergraduate psychology major at Eastern Connecticut State University (‘26) concentrating in cognitive neuroscience. She will be visiting the ADAM lab this summer as part of Rice’s NSF-funded REU program. She is interested in attention in dynamic environments. Outside of research, Raya enjoys swimming, reading, and traveling

 

 

Arcadia Hinton-Cooley

Arcadia is an undergraduate student at Rice University pursuing a major in Psychology with a minor in Philosophy. In the future, she hopes to enter the field of clinical psychology. Outside of the lab, Arcadia is a manager at a student-run business and enjoys weightlifting and embroidery.

 

 

 

Rohini Kompella 

Rohini is an undergraduate student at Rice University (‘27) majoring in Cognitive Sciences with interests in Neuroscience and Psychology. She is interested in researching differences among individuals’ visual attention/working memory and their relationships with mental health disorders and visual impairments. Her first-authored research paper in the European Journal of Ophthalmology developed a mathematical model that predicts drug concentrations and effects for an anti-glaucoma bimatoprost implant. In her free time, Rohini enjoys reading, writing songs, painting, and playing the violin.

 

Abigail (Abby) Proctor

Abby is an undergraduate student at Rice University (‘26) majoring in Neuroscience. She is doing a fellowship at the ADAM lab as a part of Rice’s SURF program. She is primarily interested in the intersection of neuroscience and psychology such as cognitive and affective neuroscience and exploring how brain function is shaped by emotion, and experience. Outside of the lab, Abby can be seen reading,  involved in student leadership and listening to music.
